How this estimate is built

DriveOut separates the vehicle purchase price, trade-in, taxable amount, state/local tax rate, title/registration charges and dealer fees. Financing is then calculated from the estimated out-the-door price after your cash down payment.

Important: A ZIP code is not always a tax jurisdiction. ZIP codes can cross cities and counties. Where a state’s official rules require a precise address, county, city, vehicle value or registration characteristics, use the official lookup linked in the calculator and replace the estimate.

Dealer vs. private-party purchases

The calculator changes logic where verified rules materially differ. Texas private-party purchases can be subject to Standard Presumptive Value rules. California private-party purchases generally use use tax rather than dealer-collected sales tax. Arizona casual private sales can differ from dealer TPT treatment.

Local tax handling

Florida includes a built-in 2026 county discretionary surtax table. For states where city/district taxes require a precise address or official state lookup, the local-rate field remains editable rather than presenting a made-up ZIP rate.

The site includes GA4 and Search Console placeholders. Replace G-XXXXXXXXXX and the verification token in the HTML before launch. No analytics data will be sent to your property until you add your own IDs.

Why does Florida have a county selector?

Florida counties can impose discretionary sales surtax, so the 2026 official county rate table is built into this version.

Why is California local tax editable?

California district tax can depend on the registration/delivery location. The official CDTFA and DMV tools are linked so you can replace the estimate with the applicable rate and fees.
